The Age of Aquarius

Every two-thousand years, a new sign rises in the east on the Spring Equinox. This sign represents the current era (or Age) of humanity. The Ages progress in reverse; the Age of Pisces ended. The Age of Aquarius is upon us.

Aquarius wants to balance the society’s needs with individual freedom.

This sign, like the Age of Aquarius, is a paradox: it wants to stand out from the crowd, blend into a group, and uphold the laws of the universe while destroying dysfunctional human systems.

The Age of Aquarius leaves people feeling alone even though the world is more connected than ever. Many people would rather binge-watch Netflix or surf the internet spend time with others.

Aquarius is very image-conscious. People, politicians, and corporations all want to present an image of being intelligent, empathetic, and forward-thinking, regardless of their true nature.

The sign Aquarius neglects its emotions while projecting an image of happiness. In the Age of Aquarius, people don’t discuss their personal problems. The appropriate answer to ‘how are you doing?’ is ‘I’m good.’ Anything else, and you feel like Making A Big Deal.

Attachments and commitment are a huge no-no. It’s normal to flake out on plans, or drop obligations if something better comes along. Honor and morality are applied to “big” problems like war, poverty, and oppression, but disturbingly absent in day-to-day life and interpersonal relationships.

Aquarius rejects the idea of ‘leadership,’ believing that decisions should be made through consensus. This is great in theory. In practice, it leads to a mob mentality. These days, no one really knows what they’re doing- most people just follow the crowd or find a bandwagon to jump on.

This fixed air sign is stubborn about its (often radical) opinions.

In the Age of Aquarius, society is polarized between two extremes, both of which ‘know’ they’re right and the opposition is wrong.

On the bright side, society is making progress in leaps and bounds; technology and the quest for equality are at the forefront of the revolution.

However, honesty, integrity, and depth in one-to-one relationships, which are Scorpio’s domain, seem to be in short supply. Interestingly, fear of intimacy is also a common theme. Tradition and stability, Taurus’s qualities, are also hard to come by, along with Leo’s honor and generosity.

In the Age of Aquarius, we see progress in Aquarian issues and a predominance of Aquarian qualities at the expense of the qualities of signs opposite or square to Aquarius on the Zodiac Wheel.

"She was more than human to me. She was a Fairy, a Sylph, I don’t know what she was - anything that no one ever saw, and everything that everybody ever wanted. I was swallowed up in an abyss of love in an instant. There was no pausing on the brink; no looking down, or looking back; I was gone, headlong, before I had sense to say a word to her."
-Charles Dickens, David Copperfield
